We wanted to run a traditional English Pub where patrons could socialise and enjoy their day’s off in a friendly, comfortable attmosphere where everyone is welcome.

"We wanted to open the sort of place, we would like
to spend our days off..."

Elaine

An early supporter of the British Beer & Real Ale movement and wanting to serve wholesome home cooked pub fayre. The Windmill has continued to gain friends and patrons for more than 35 years.

Through the up’s & downs of the pub industry, the Windmill stuck to its principles of serving a good pint, great food and a warm welcome. Ideas that today drove a renaissance in real Ale, microbreweries and independent pub’s opening to challange the brewery chains.

"Let's hear it for the beer... all hail to the ale & welcome the wine."

Al Murry

Keeping the faith has rewarded beer connoisseurs with an ever changing choice of Ales & craft beers.

From Wye Valley Breweries HPA to the slightly Fruity Damsen Porter, the Windmills cellar is a dedication of firm favourites and ever changing guests to tempt and delight.

For those leaning towards the grape & juniper, the Windmill offers a range of fine wines and  ample stock of Gins.

"our good intentions of a long afternoon walk, were scuppered by a
warm fire and an even more fulfilling dinner."

From the beginning Elaine insisted on offering a home cooked, wholesome menu using locally sourced in season ingredients.

The increasing popularity of eating out, was met by adding a specials board offering dinners an opportunity to try something different while allowing our Chef’s to indulge their creativity.

More recently a grill menu has been added that has seen the Windmill gain a growing reputation for it’s great steaks… & “oh so good” homemade batted onion rings that Elaine was forced to add to the menu as a side order.

"The children ran riot, petted the dogs in the bar, the other half was drinking Gin and I savoured my half because I was driving."

While retaining an appeal to those looking for a proper pint, a quiet meal or socialising with friends… The Windmill also wanted to cater for families. Children have an outdoor play area, their own menu & larger parties or gatherings can be accommodated in our upstairs dining area.

Maintaining a rare double crown green and having it’s own bowling team. The Windmill attracts players far & wide.

"you put your bike down, grab a beer, get well fed & then don't want to get back on it again, thinking of taking up bowls."

With nearby Cannock Chase gaining more popularity over the years the Windmill has become a mid-day rest stop or an end of day destination for visitors.

It’s not uncommon to see walkers, hikers, mountain bikers & riders sharing the lounge with families on a day out.

Simply, “it’s the sort of place where, we would like to spend our days off.”
